Governmental relations, both state and national, rank as a top priority for CBA and receive considerable attention. CBA provides representation at all legislative committee meetings and prepares and introduces legislation and regulations that are beneficial to its membership. The following events are examples of the political activities initiated by CBA in order to maintain the political presence most desirable to its members:

SB 82: Financial Institutions; supplement definitions; personnel policies: (Sen. Hamrick 30th) – (Georgia Department of Banking & Finance’s Housekeeping Bill). Download It

Congress In a Hurry: Sarbanes-Oxley Act - Information from Powell Goldstein Frazer & Murphy: Powell Goldstein Frazer & Murphy, LLP, has provided CBA members with a Client Alert.

Day at the Capitol

The Community Bankers Association of Georgia (CBA) hosts an annual Community Banking Day at the Capitol every winter. This event was unable to be held this year due to the General Assembly's decision to recess, but it will be scheduled again for 2008. The Day at the Capitol gives Georgia’s community bankers an opportunity to display support of their incumbent state government leaders and, especially, their newly-elected leaders. Community bankers from throughout the state gather in the capitol to visit their legislators and watch them at work in the legislative session.

Fall Legislative Group Meetings

Each year, CBA hosts five Fall Group Meetings throughout the state. This annual gathering offers a casual networking opportunity for bankers, associate members, bank directors and legislators. Combined with an optional golf outing, the Fall Group Meetings are a great way to join community bankers and legislators in your area to discuss issues affecting community banks; meet new people and renew old friendships; and gain a more thorough understanding of your Association and what it offers.

Stay tuned for the 2007 dates!

Regulation and Taxation Liaison Committee

Since 1992, CBA’s Regulation & Taxation Liaison Committee has met quarterly with the top regulators from the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, FDIC, Department of Banking and Finance (DBF), Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), and Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), to discuss the latest issues in the banking industry. In a structured meeting specific questions or comments may be presented to the Committee to, in turn, ask the agencies. Exam questions regarding preparation or process, compliance issues and brief summaries of changing or new regulations, are all appropriate for this forum. The format generates an influx of information from the regulators and their interaction with each other during the question and answer session is often very enlightening. After each meeting, a detailed summary is prepared emailed to all bank presidents/CEOs and committee membership.

You are invited to attend an upcoming meeting at the CBA office in Atlanta. The Regulation and Taxation Liaison Committee meetings will be held:

February 1, 2007
May 3, 2007
August 2, 2007
November 1, 2007

Political Affairs Campaign/Public Relations Fund

Community Bankers Association of Georgia’s Political Action Committee Fund is supported by contributions by CBA members and through golf tournaments organized by CBA’s Leadership Division twice a year. The CBA’s Political Action Committee Fund provides Georgia’s Community banking industry a voice in state politics through campaign contributions to state legislators and candidates seeking election. The PAC fund assists candidates who support community banking and are running for election to the Georgia State legislature. CBA maintains the only state PAC working exclusively for community banks.
