Humanitarian aid organizations are overwhelmed by the needs for food, shelter, and supplies to assist those affected by Hurricane Michael. Your support can make a difference as people begin to put their lives back together. The Community Bankers Association of Georgia (CBA) is proud to partner with the first and only charitable giving platform made for financial institutions: GoodCoin.

At CBA of Georgia, we are committed to supporting folks affected by disasters big and small. This includes driving much needed aid and donations to our charity partners providing emergency shelter, medical supplies, food, and other support when a disaster strikes. These organizations depend on the generosity of donors like you. You can help them prepare for, respond to, and help people recover from disasters like Hurricane Michael. Please consider donating to a disaster relief charity today. With your generous donation, folks in areas affected by Hurricane Michael can receive vital aid and support. Together, we make a difference in the lives of many. Click here to donate today. Please help us spread the word and share this link on your website and social media platforms so others can contribute.

Banks' Golden Deposits are Heading out the Door
After nearly three years of rate increases from the Federal Reserve, customers are pulling billions of dollars out of accounts that don’t earn interest and putting their money into higher-yielding alternatives. That will crimp banks’ ability to grow profits going forward.

Customers withdrew more than $30 billion from U.S. bank accounts that don’t earn interest over the year that ended June 30, the first such annual decline in more than a decade, according to FDIC data. These deposits largely consist of business and consumer checking accounts and are considered particularly valuable because banks can use these no-cost deposits to make loans. As short-term interest rates rise, they become even more lucrative. Read more.

How Does AI Change Banking, and How Can You Prepare?
Artificial intelligence (AI), or the development of computer systems to perform human-like tasks, like decision-making and speech recognition, is a fairly divisive topic. Sometimes, the uncertainty surrounding AI can be met with anxiety, fearing that one’s job or industry may be overtaken by automation. On the other hand, AI is viewed positively, met with the excitement of endless opportunities. Between chatting with bots on your bank’s website, to checking your account balance over the phone with digital voice assistants, you’ve probably encountered more AI in your recent banking experience than you thought. There’s no doubt that AI is going to continue to be utilized in more aspects of bank operations and offerings, and will likely change the landscape of banking as we know it – but exactly what can we expect to see? Read the full article. Guest article from CBA Associate Member Sageworks.
