It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we share the news of the passing of our friend Chuck Harwell. Chuck was a dedicated husband to Robin, and a loving father to Caleb and Corey. Chuck also served as a long time leadership banker in CBA actively participating in CBA's Board of Directors and LEAD Division.  As President/CEO of The Community Bank of Dublin-Laurens County, his service as a community banker helped hundreds of small businesses and individuals with their financial services needs.

"It is people like Chuck that make the world a better place and we will miss him terribly. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Harwell family and the greater Dublin community," said John McNair, CBA President & CEO.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in memory of Mr. Harwell to Promise of Hope at P.O. Box 321, Dudley, Georgia 31022 or to The Gideons International at P.O. Box 27, Dublin, Georgia 31040.  For obituary, click here.

Georgia’s community bankers do great things in their communities every day. Here is the latest on community outreach and news from CBA Members:
  • Citizens Bank of Laurens County, Dublin would like to welcome the 2021 edition of the Citizens Bank of Laurens County’s Student Advisory Council.  This year is the Bank’s 17th year for this program.  The Council is made up of seniors from Dublin High School, East Laurens High School, Trinity Christian School, and West Laurens High School.  “We present a variety of programs, ranging from banking topics to volunteerism to our local city/county governments and our chamber of commerce/development authority,” stated June Moore, Senior Vice President and Program Coordinator. “The group does a community service project which they select, plan and carry out to completion, with only minimal assistance from the Bank staff.  These are Student Leaders Today and Community Leaders Tomorrow”.  Since its inception, the Council has had over 475 members from the four high schools in Laurens County.  Citizens Bank is proud of all its past and current members and looks forward to another successful and exciting year.
  • Pineland Bank, Alma had an employee who collapsed in the bank’s Fernandina Beach office.  Employees Susan Sturges and Blair Jude ran to check on him.  When they got to him, they discovered he was unresponsive.  These ladies did not panic, they remained calm, called 911 and immediately started CPR.   The employee will be returning to work in the very near future. Congratulations to Susan and Blair on a job well done!
  • Oconee State Bank, Watkinsville, Financial Center lobbies recently reopened and we’re so excited to reconnect with our valued customers and community, and safely serve them in person!
  • OSB team members were recently on-site celebrating a major milestone happening soon at our new Corporate Headquarters! Pouring the foundation is not only an important step in the building process, it’s also symbolic of Oconee State Bank laying a strong foundation for future growth and success!
  • Congratulations to Candice Meeler, Human Resources Assistant, for being awarded the Golden Cupola for third quarter 2020!
  • Georgia Community Bank, Albany, team member Melinda Posey in Reynolds recently volunteered at The House of Blessings, a local food pantry and resource center for those in need.
  • Georgia Community Bank team members Haley Prescott and Heidi Breeden volunteer every other Wednesday distributing food for the Feeding the Valley Food Bank, which partners with United Way to distribute food to under-served families in surrounding counties.
  • The Bank of Newington sponsored the 1st Annual Pull for Kids Sporting Clays Tournament to take aim at child abuse and neglect on September 26th.
  • Bank of Newington would like to wish Mrs. Mary Wilma Wells a very special 97th birthday.  She has been the heart of Bank of Newington and a dedicated fixture at the bank for the majority of her life.  She embodies what it means to be a true community banker and is dearly loved by her friends and family. Mrs. Wells is a stockholder and Board Director.
