Mark your calendars and plan to tee it up for Community Banking! CBA is hosting two TopGolf outings this year that you won’t want to miss!

Join us for a one-of-a-kind event that is equal parts networking and golf tournament with a friendly competition! This open-air tournament offers a way to connect and raise money for an important cause – CBA’s PAC Fund. Enjoy food, beverages, prizes and support CBA’s PAC.

Proceeds from these events go to the CBA Political Action Committee (PAC) and Public Relations (PR) funds. Since CBA maintains the only state PAC working exclusively for Georgia’s community banks, the funds provide Georgia’s community banking industry a voice in state politics.

Registration includes 3 hours of golf, food, unlimited non-alcoholic drinks and an afternoon of fun! Click here to register!

Georgia Senators and CBA Urge OMB to Study MSA Definition
CBA would like to extend our appreciation to Senators Jon Ossoff (D), Atlanta and Raphael Warnock (D), Atlanta for signing this letter to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). In the letter, numerous senators expressed their concern regarding the Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Area Standards Review Committee’s proposed changes to the 2010 standards for determining metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas and urged to reconsider the Committee’s recommendation.

In addition, a separate group of senators also asked the Office of Management and Budget to end its consideration of a proposal to update its standards on metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas.

Last week, John McNair, CBA President & CEO, expressed his concern in a release to members.

The Lowdown on BOLI
Over the past two decades, banks have increasingly dabbled in BOLI, or bank-owned life insurance. While there are downsides to consider, experts say the benefits of these policies are two-fold: to generate income in the long term and to retain bank leaders.

Two-thirds of banks in the U.S. hold BOLI assets, according to the NFP-Michael White BOLI Holdings Report for Q3 2020. The cash surrender value of those policies totals $182.2 billion. Banks with less than $10 billion in assets have, on average, approximately 14% of capital in BOLI.

BOLI has become one of the most common methods of financing the cost of employee and director benefits, including nonqualified benefit plans. It gained considerable traction in 2004 when the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) released Bulletin 2004-56: The Interagency Statement on the Purchase and Risk Management of Life Insurance. Read entire article.

Georgia’s community bankers do great things in their communities every day. Here is the latest on community outreach and news from CBA Members:
  • Planters First Bank, Hawkinsville,  is participating in March's National Reading Month! Hawkinsville Banking Team members Tim Wynne, Bobbie Clemons, Lina Jones, and Melanie Bush have all taken part in readings of children's books. Coordinator Maggie Bloodworth leads this Virtual Reading Event coordinated by the Pulaski County Family Connection. Each book reading video will be part of a video library for the Pulaski County Head Start, Pre-K, and Elementary School children.
  • Exchange Bank, Milledgeville, recently made a $50,000 donation to Atrium Health Navicent Hospital through the Georgia HEART program.  The Georgia HEART program helps hospitals enhance access to rural healthcare. This is done through tax credits that redirect income taxes from donors to qualifying rural hospitals. We are so proud of the incredible work Atrium Health Navicent provides to Baldwin County and are excited to have the opportunity to redirect our income tax dollars to help them continue the wonderful work that they do.
  • Congratulations to Peach State Bank & Trust pictured here at the ribbon cutting ceremony of the bank’s new Loan Office in Braselton.
  • Jessica Roberts, Vice President, Mortgage Lending at Oconee State Bank, Watkinsville, was the recipient of the 2020 Oconee Chamber Champion of the Year Award.
