SEC Coach of the Year and UGA Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Joni Taylor, kicked off CBA’s WINSPIRE program by outlining three ways you can be great. One way to be great, Taylor shared, “surround yourself with great people,” and we are thrilled that close to 50 ladies gathered together to inspire one another. WINSPIRE, our newly branded, formerly known as Women in Banking event, took place on Thursday at The Graduate Hotel & Foundry in Athens. CBA’s WINSPIRE program is designed for women who work in the community banking industry and desire to continue learning while encouraging others to live their best life. Ladies participated throughout the day in multiple eye-opening exercises to reassure individuals to take care of themselves personally. “My cup is overflowing with joy!” said Kristi Greer, SVP Professional Development. “I am honored to serve the women in our banks and bring opportunities to continue their professional development while remembering the importance of personal well-being.”
Trust, voice, credibility, empathy, values, character, and authenticity were just a few of the topics covered by our keynote speaker, April Farlow. The Legendary Ladies panel offered many pearls of wisdom from their individual stories that taught us all to think about our daily service and what we set our sights on each day. The panel included: Corrie Hall, James-Bates-Brannon-Groover, LLC; Debra Weil, Community Banking Company of Fitzgerald; Lisa Berry, Warren Averett; Kay Ford, BankSouth; Deesha Hagwood, Oconee State Bank; Jane Lawson, First Peoples Bank.
The weather was perfect for hosting a reception outside with sparkling juice and champagne glasses. This part of the event was purposeful to start our decorum and etiquette lessons around business development networking and dining opportunities for lunch. To continue supporting our minds, bodies and spirits, Rebecca Turk, SNDBath gave us a sensory sound bath experience, and we wrapped up the day with former UGA Gymnast, Caroline Ward, who taught us how to support lower back pain with more than ten yoga stretches.
A few words from our participants included, “Wow! Thank you for putting together this program." "WINSPIRE was excellent and definitely planned for us women personally." "Thank you for supporting us personally; we needed this!” "Honestly, it was probably one of the best events I have ever attended!"
CBA would like to continue our gratitude to our program sponsors: ACG, ATM Response, James Bates Brannan Groover LLP, Travelers, Warren Averett, and Wipfli.

Webinar: Planning for Year End and the New Year
October 5, 2021 | 11:00 a.m.
Financial institutions posted strong earnings thus far during 2021. Earnings have been supported by robust mortgage banking revenue and loan fees realized from participation in the SBA’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), while net charge-offs reached a record low. However, low interest rates combined with record deposit growth and tepid loan demand led to an abundance of liquidity and significant net interest margin compression. Margin compression may lead to earnings headwinds next year as PPP lending and mortgage banking revenues subside. As year-end quickly approaches, this webinar will cover the current economy, market conditions, and strategies designed to assist your financial institution in looking for year-end opportunities and planning for the new year. Click here for more information and to register.
