Austin's story is one of tragedy and incomprehensible loss and triumph.

On Labor Day of 2003, his family was flying from northern Michigan to Ft. Wayne, Indiana. As they were preparing to land, the aircraft crashed and burst into flames. His dad threw me out of the plane to save his life while he went back into the flames to get his mom and his two sisters,  Julie and Lindsay as well as his brother, Ian. But tragically, was unable to. Austin's mom, sister and brother did not survive.

He and his dad grieved the loss but  found ways to keep living in the midst of the incomprehensible pain. They pushed each other to overcome, as they knew his mom, sisters, and brother would’ve wanted.

Eventually, his dad met a lovely woman named Kimberley, who had three kids of her own. They got married and together, they formed a wonderful blended family. Austin worked hard on his basketball skills. His dream was to play for The University of Michigan and on  June 15, 2011, he was offered a full scholarship to play basketball there. It was a dream come true.

Nine days later, on June 24th, 2011, Austin's dad and “second mom” were flying to Northern Michigan to have a weekend of celebration. As they were preparing to land, the aircraft crashed, and his dad and second mom were killed on impact. Austin suffered severe injuries and was nearly killed himself. After being in a coma for over two months, Austin had to relearn how to walk, talk and basically how to live his life. With the help of many incredible doctors, therapists, his family and friends, he found a way to make it to Michigan.

Twelve years later he graduated from  The University of Michigan and is now a full-time motivational speaker with a message about Grit & Thriving in the midst of adversity. His message is about his journey from a coma, to a wheelchair to playing for Michigan. Join us Thursday, June 6 for his inspiring message.

Financial services face a coming inflection point as attracting and keeping younger customers becomes more imperative.  Younger digital natives are entering the workforce and yet are not driven to open a traditional banking account, instead opting for “banking with P2P services and neobank alternatives".  Financial institutions need to rethink their approach to what it means to be a financial institution and take on a “customer experience” first mentality in planning for the transition in service offerings.

Fintech pioneer and internationally recognized speaker David Peterson will lead attendees through the steps that are needed to recognize the inflection point and detail strategies for successfully navigating the coming challenge of convincing future customers that having a primary financial institution relationship is strategically important.

The Cowboys are still favorites around the state of Georgia and play all types of venues from small clubs to large outdoor festivals.
