CBA Advocates on Capitol Hill at ICBA Capital Summit

CBA Today eNewsletter,

Georgia bankers make their voices heard in Washington, D.C.

“Our group lobbied for community bank legislative priorities. We discussed opposition to the CFPB's Section 1071 rule, major tax legislation, taxation on credit unions with assets greater than $1 billion, access to credit for rural economies (ACRE) act, ensuring a Stablecoin framework, promoting new bank formation, and restricting the sale of mortgage trigger leads,” explained Lori Godfrey, COO, Government & Regulatory Relations at CBA.  “Our bankers used examples from their employees and customers to illustrate the issues within their communities. Showing up in person and discussing these issues with our legislators is critical for building relationships as constituents and affecting change.”
As a bonus, attendees were able to sit in for part of the US House Committee on Financial Services "Shaping the Future of Bank Mergers and De Novo Formation" subcommittee hearing, where  We were able to hear Congressman Barry Loudermilk (GA 11) presided over a portion of that meeting.

“We covered many important topics of which included securing relief for the Georgia AG industry that was hit so hard by the recent storms. Congressional visits are vitally important for the overall advocacy process, and I encourage more bankers to attend in the future,” stated John McNair, CBA President & CEO.  “Thank you to all the bankers, partners, and supporters who joined us. We are proud to represent Georgia’s community banking industry and look forward to continuing the work that ensures its vitality and growth.”

CBA also arranged for a tour of the White House where Georgia participants had the opportunity to explore its rich history.

CBA extends heartfelt thanks to our generous sponsors who made this impactful trip possible: ICBA Securities, IntraFi, James Bates Brannan Groover LLP, Newcleus, and SHAZAM.  A special thank you also to the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta for hosting the Monday night dinner.
