The Era of Super Intelligence

Innovation Circuit,

President Donald J. Trump has signed an Executive Order directing federal agencies and departments to replace the term “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) with “Super Intelligence” (SI) in executive branch communications and policy materials. According to the administration, the change is intended to reflect advances in the technology and its potential applications.

Under the Order:

  • Federal departments and agencies are directed to use the terms “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official correspondence, public communications, policy documents, and other non-statutory materials. The use of the terms “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” is to be discontinued in these contexts.

  • The Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (APST) is tasked with developing a federal definition of “Super Intelligence” and “SI” that reflects the current state of the technology, as well as identifying any additional executive actions needed to support implementation.

The administration stated that the United States is a global leader in the development of advanced intelligent technologies and that adopting the term “Super Intelligence” is intended to better align federal terminology with the capabilities and future direction of the field.
